Finally, American Idol is no longer responsible for carrying a whole network. With assistance from Truth, FOX notched another victory in its ratings belt.

- Deal or No Deal (13.8 million, 3.7/10) scored another 2 million from the banker.
- Wife Swap (5.6 million, 1.9/5) traded up for another 400,000.

Where Have I Seen Them Before?: Linus Roache
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Gossip,
Every once in a while, there’s a tune on television you just can’t get out of head. What is the name of that song? Why can’t I stop singing it? Other times, there’s a familiar face you know you’ve seen before. What movie was he/she in? He looks like someone I went to school with!
Just recently I was forced to hit the computer after watching the new and improved season of Law and Order. I was obsessed with finding out who the new man in the DA’s office was. I had a hard time getting the name Sam Shepard out of my head, even though I knew it wasn’t him. I simply had to end the mystery before I could go to bed.
Thankfully, I found out I wasn’t crazy. The actor had starred in one of my favorite gut-wrenchingly romantic movies: 1997’s The Wings of the Dove. Linus Roache was the man who had captured the heart of two women in that film (Helena Bonham Carter and Alison Elliott) and many others in the theater like me.
But if period dramas are not your thing, there’s a chance you might have seen him in another little project: Batman Begins. Roache played Christian Bale’s deceased father, Thomas Wayne.
Wednesday Ratings: FOX Continues to Ride Idol’s Wave
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Games, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Specials, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Ratings,
Another night with Idol means another win for FOX. Even if the other networks had formed an alliance, their numbers still wouldn’t surpass the reality juggernaut.
8pm
- American Idol (12.6/30 in 18-49) opened and closed the evening with 30.3 million viewers. That large number was actually a 3 million decline from Tuesday’s premiere.
- Deal or No Deal (3.1/8) negotiated with 11.8 million.
- Wife Swap (5.2 million, 2.0/5) kissed about 2.5 million goodbye.
- Power of 10 (4.9 million, 1.1/3) lost strength from last week.
- Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants (1.6 million, 0.7/2) was down just a tad.
9pm
- Comanche Moon (2.4/6 in 18-49) signed off with 12.1 million.
- Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2.4/5) interrogated 8.8 million.
- Supernanny (2.5/6) sat 6.1 million down in the naughty chair.
- Gossip Girl* (0.5/1) texted 1.1 million.
10pm
- Law & Order (11.6 million, 3.6/9 in 18-49) brought 600,000 more to justice since last week.
- Cashmere Mafia (5.4 million, 2.2/6) shrunk another 800,000 viewers.

MONDAY (1/7)
- The View (ABC, check local listings): Elisabeth Hasselbeck returns from maternity leave. I’d gladly sacrifice her to the union gods for an end to the writers’ strike.
- Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann (ABC, 8pm): Here’s our chance to see if the DWTS judges can actually teach what they preach.
- American Gladiators (NBC, 8pm): “In the men’s competition, an engineer takes on a radiation-control technician.” The year of the nerd has now officially spilled over into 2008.
- Medium (NBC, 10pm): Season four premiere. “Allison has creepy visions of a boy being kidnapped from a toy store.” I never did trust that Geoffrey Giraffe.
- Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations (Travel Channel, 10pm): Anthony travels to Singapore for his latest season premiere. I don’t like traveling with crusty people, but I love watching them venture on TV.
- The Daily Show/The Colbert Report (Comedy Central, 11:30pm): Tonight Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will crank out their versions of a writer-less show. God love ‘em for trying.

- New Year’s Eve Live (FOX, 11pm): Idol alums Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis will perform. In just a few short weeks, we’ll start caring about a new batch of idols.
- Tila Tequila’s New Year’s Eve Masquerade (MTV, 11pm): NYC masked ball will include Kid Rock and Mary J. Blige. Has it already been a year since we were forced to watch Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo kiss?
- NBC’s New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly (NBC, 11:35pm): Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz will be performing. This may be the first time in a while someone has stayed awake to watch Daly’s show.
